Tax Returns for Individuals and Businesses

Every year, individuals and businesses have to file a tax return. If you prepare it yourself, you have to lodge it by the 31st of October. If you have a tax agent prepare your tax return for you then most people don’t have to lodge it until May of the following year.

Why have a Tax Agent Prepare Your Tax Return

Tax Agents have to be registered by the Tax Practitioners Board, and in order to do so they need the requisite qualifications and experience in preparing tax returns. By enlisting the help of an expert, you could save yourself some big money in the future. If you misinterpret important rules, such as the capital gains tax legislation, you could end up paying a whole lot more tax than you would otherwise have paid.

Why Not Use One of the Tax Return Preparation Chains?

You only have to file one tax return each year, so it’s worth the time to come and see a professional tax practitioner. In many cases, particularly with these chain operators, your tax return isn’t being prepared by a Registered Tax Agent. They use a loophole where the person preparing your return is an employee of a Tax Agent, with the qualified person just signing it off. For an even better price, you can have a qualified individual prepare your tax return.

How Much does it Cost?

For individuals residents, including those running a small business, you can have your tax return prepared for a flat rate of $110 regardless of the complexity. The only requirement is that you have your papers in order, and if you run a business, you have a workable profit and loss statement from which your tax return can be prepared. If you are a non-resident, your tax return will cost $130 to prepare.

OK, Sounds Good… Can You See Me After Work?

Sure, I take appointments until 10pm from July to October for no extra charge. If you want an after hours appointment outside those months, we can certainly work something out.

Can’t I Just Send You My Papers and Not Come In?

Absolutely, you can email off your information or send it in and you can have an interview over the phone. There’s really no need for you to actually come in to have your tax return done, it really just depends on what you prefer.
